Oxbow Folklore
It's confirmed that a wooden effigy was built and burned in the Richford village square a long time ago, right on the grassy part in the middle. There are 2 surviving newspaper articles from 18-whatever, when it happened, that briefly mention it. That's all anybody knows though.
There's a campy general store that sells rock candy there now. In the fall, they have farmers' markets and live music on the grass. They build an ice skating rink every winter now too, probably right on top of wherever the fire was.
. . .
At the bottom of the hill, right after you pass the 'Park & Ride' and then the Cambridge sign, is a simple, boxy little building. It's been there since before I was born. When I was young, it was always yellow. Attached to the roof was a rectangular sign with the red and white Coca-Cola logo on the bottom of it, and the name Angelina's in black block letters against a white background on the top half. In those days it was a hole-in-the-wall Italian place with red and white checkered tablecloths.
But the building's been owned by a couple from Massachusetts since the pandemic. Now it's a pizza joint called Rusty's. They painted it blueish-purple. The new sign has a kind of pink, furry-looking character on it, a bit like the "Press Your Luck" Whammy. I think there are 2 other out-of-state locations also.
